FAQ

Vlora offers ample opportunities for historical tourism, where you can explore

History

Vlora is basically like a massive outdoor museum, but without those little audio guides you get in proper museums. First off, there’s Kanina Castle, which is old. Really old. It sits on a hill, probably because castles were allergic to flat ground, and it gives you one of those views people pretend to appreciate while actually just checking for a phone signal.

Then there’s the ancient Aulona settlement – not to be confused with anything remotely modern. It’s full of ruins, which means it used to be something important before time came along and ruined it. If rocks could talk, they’d probably say, “We used to be a civilization. Now we’re just a very complicated pile.”

And you can’t miss the House of Independence – the actual building where someone said, “Right, enough of that,” and raised the Albanian flag for the first time in 1912. It’s like the birthplace of the country, but with more bricks.

Finally, there’s the Muradie Mosque, which is properly beautiful and all symmetrical, which shows they really cared about maths back then. It’s one of those buildings that makes you go, “Wow, that’s nice,” even if you have no idea why.

So basically, if you like looking at the past with your eyes instead of reading about it, Vlora’s got your back.
