Safety in Albania

People often think Albania is dangerous, probably because they’ve never been and assume it’s full of mysterious Balkan intrigue and goats on motorbikes. But actually, Albania is one of the safest countries in Europe. You can wander from the top to the bottom of the country without anyone trying to rob you, or even mildly inconvenience you.

The people are famously hospitable, which means they’ll offer you food even if you just asked for directions. And the police are always around too, not in a scary way, but in a helpful, “we’ll find your lost flip-flop” kind of way. They look after both locals and tourists, which is reassuring, unless you’re up to no good, in which case, maybe go to a less safe country.
